Artemis is the name of the environmental project created by MEDSEA, launched a year ago, aimed at the protection and restoration of Posidonia Oceanica meadows in the Mediterranean. The project includes four pilot sites:
- The AMP (Marine Protected Area) of Capo Testa-Punta Falcone (SS) (partner of MedSea);
- Mallorca;
- Menorca;
- Crete. Restoration will take place in some areas deemed suitable for recovery.
In the AMP of Capo Testa-Punta Falcone, the planting of Posidonia will be combined with mooring fields, created with PNRR funding, to mitigate the impact of anchors. This is a prototype suitable for boats over 10 meters in length, which will be anchored to eco-friendly concrete blocks made with materials that make them resemble living bodies: these blocks will serve as fish shelters and encourage coral development. The testing is expected for June 2025.
